A doctor delivers life-changing news.
Every month, we feature a free scene to help you sharpen your skills, test new characters, or just get some practice in. This month’s is a two-hander called T12 — and it’s a heavy one.
What’s the scene about?
“T12” is a dramatic exchange between a doctor and their patient. The doctor has just finished reviewing scans and has to deliver a devastating diagnosis. The patient, confused at first, starts to realize the gravity of the situation. It’s subtle. Emotional. And powerful.
This one was originally written to help a real-life doctor friend rehearse how to handle these kinds of conversations with compassion — but it works just as well for actors trying to explore nuance, empathy, and restraint in a high-stakes moment.
Why this is a great scene to practice
Serious emotional stakes – The subtext does a lot of the heavy lifting. You'll need to find the right balance between control and vulnerability.
Great for audition tapes – If you want to show range and depth, this is a solid two-minute scene for drama reels.
